By Emeka Amaefula
The Rivers State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in the investigation into the disappearance of Mr. Sampson Worianime, an Okrika youth who was reported missing on November 11, 2025, after accompanying members of his community youth from Ogbogbo Community in Okrika to their old settlement for a land measurement exercise.
The matter assumed urgency following a distress petition submitted by the victim’s mother, which prompted the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) of the Command to commence an intensive, intelligence-driven investigation. Acting on credible information, police operatives arrested two suspects identified as Igwe Alex, a 26-year-old Chief Security Officer of Aleto-Eleme Community, and John Mikel, 24, both residents of Aleto Eleme.

Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects allegedly abducted two youths from Okrika during the incident. While one of the abducted youths reportedly escaped, investigations revealed that Sampson Worianime was killed. The suspects further confessed to disposing of the victim’s body in a nearby riverine area.
Following their confessions, the suspects led police operatives to the crime scene, where the remains of the deceased were recovered from a shallow grave. The suspects are currently in police custody and are cooperating with investigators, as efforts have been intensified to apprehend other accomplices linked to the crime.
The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Police Command, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, psc, mnips, has directed a thorough and meticulous investigation to ensure that all those involved in what he described as a heinous crime are identified, arrested, and made to face the full weight of the law.

The Command has reassured residents of Rivers State of its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property, and has appealed to members of the public to continue supporting the police with credible information that may aid ongoing investigations.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Rivers State Police Command, Chief Superintendent of Police CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, ANIPR, stated that the suspects remain in lawful custody pending the conclusion of investigations and their arraignment before a competent court.
