LEADERSHIP MILESTONE: DR. DORIS OKOROH APPOINTED PROVOST OF FEDERAL COLLEGE OF EDUCATION (TECHNICAL), OMOKU

Dr. (Lady) Doris O. Okoroh has been appointed the Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku (FCET Omoku), Rivers State, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s leadership and academic development.

A distinguished Nigerian academic, researcher, and higher education administrator, Dr. Okoroh, also known as Doris Okoro or Doris Chinedu-Okoro, brings to the position extensive experience in teaching, research, institutional governance, and academic leadership.

She is a lecturer in the Department of Physics, School of Science Education, FCET Omoku, where she previously served as Dean of the School of Secondary Education (Sciences), now known as the School of Science Education. Her tenure as Dean was marked by contributions to academic advancement and institutional growth, with the Dean’s office commissioned around 2019.

Dr. Okoroh has played a vital role in the governance structure of the college, representing the College Academic Board on the institution’s 8th Governing Council as of 2024. She has also contributed to institutional development through academic initiatives, including the organisation of conferences and scholarly engagements focused on emerging areas such as nanotechnology and science education advancement.

An accomplished researcher in the fields of geophysics, hydrogeochemistry, environmental science, and earth sciences, Dr. Okoroh has co-authored research works on groundwater quality assessment in FCET Omoku using hydrogeochemical techniques. Her academic contributions also include geophysical studies on aquifer characteristics, protective capacity, and corrosivity assessments using electrical resistivity methods. She holds a Doctoral degree PhD in Physics.

Beyond her service at FCET Omoku, Dr. Okoroh is a distinguished alumna of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and served as the Global President of the University of Nigeria Alumni Association (UNAA). Her tenure as Global President was successfully concluded with a smooth handover in April 2026, further distinguishing her as an astute team leader, accomplished administrator, and visionary institution builder.

During her leadership of the alumni association, she provided direction and coordination for major alumni activities, programmes, and initiatives aimed at strengthening the relationship between the university and its global alumni community.

She holds the titles of Justice of the Peace (JP) and ALOHA, and is a member of professional organisations, including the Mathematical Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (MSTAN) and other science-related professional bodies.

Dr. Okoroh is widely respected for her commitment to science education, research, environmental studies, and sustainable academic development. Her leadership experience in higher education governance and alumni administration reflects her capacity for effective management, collaboration, and strategic institutional advancement.

Her appointment as Provost is expected to further promote academic excellence, innovation, and institutional development at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku.
