OYO STATE GOVERNOR SEYE MAKINDE DECLARES 2027 PRESIDENTIAL AMBITION, UNVEILS “RESET NIGERIA MOVEMENT”

Governor of Seyi Makinde has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under a new political alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied People’s Movement (APM).
Makinde made the declaration on Thursday during the Unity Mega Rally held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, where he unveiled the “Reset Nigeria Movement,” a political platform aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general election.
According to the governor, the alliance between the PDP and APM was established to provide Nigerians with a credible political alternative capable of addressing growing public dissatisfaction with the nation’s political system and delivering effective governance.
As part of the initiative, Makinde also launched a dedicated campaign website and nationwide mobilisation structure designed to drive support for the movement across the country.
Addressing supporters at the rally, the governor stated that Nigeria could no longer continue with “politics as usual,” stressing the need to rebuild public trust, strengthen democratic institutions and create a governance system that works for all citizens.
He explained that the Reset Nigeria Movement would focus on key national priorities, including economic growth, job creation, education, healthcare, infrastructure development, power sector reforms, security and institutional strengthening. Makinde added that the country requires competent, transparent and accountable leadership capable of restoring confidence in government.
Political observers believe the alliance could significantly reshape opposition politics ahead of the 2027 elections, as consultations and coalition-building efforts continue across the country.
There are also indications that Makinde’s loyal political structure in Oyo State may contest future elections under the APM platform instead of the PDP following the newly signed alliance agreement between both parties.
The governor further announced former Oyo State Commissioner for Finance, Bimbo Adekanmbi, as his preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election in the state.
With political activities ahead of the 2027 elections already gathering momentum, analysts say the emerging coalition may trigger fresh political realignments and alliances nationwide.
