BREAKING: SUPREME COURT REAFFIRMS DAVID MARK AS ADC CHAIRMAN, SETS ASIDE APPEAL COURT ORDER

On Thursday, 30th April 2026, the Supreme Court of Nigeria set aside the order for status quo ante bellum earlier issued by the Court of Appeal, Abuja, in the leadership dispute within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), effectively restoring the David Mark–led executive and reversing its delisting by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a unanimous decision, a five-member panel of justices led by Mohammed Lawal Garba held that the order of the Court of Appeal was unnecessary and improperly granted. The apex court further ruled that the appeal on jurisdiction arose from an ex parte order inviting parties to show cause, filed without first obtaining the requisite leave of the appellate court.

The ruling brings relief to members of African Democratic Congress across Nigeria, where concerns had mounted over the actions of the Independent National Electoral Commission in excluding the party from participation in the 2027 general elections.
