Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has called on the people of the State to remain united, peaceful and committed to the service of God as a means of sustaining development, prosperity and harmonious coexistence.

Governor Fubara made the call during an Inter-Denominational Church Service held to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Rebisi, Port Harcourt, on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

Represented by his Deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, the Governor urged Rivers people to pray for continued peace, unity and progress in the State, stressing the importance of remaining united and speaking with one voice in the interest of collective development.

According to him, sustained dedication to God, coupled with unity among the people, would contribute significantly to the development of Rivers State and the advancement of human prosperity.

Governor Fubara also prayed for God’s continued blessings, protection and peace upon the people of the State, expressing optimism that Rivers would continue to record greater developmental achievements.

In his sermon, the Dean, Church of Nigeria, Archbishop of the Province of Niger Delta and Bishop of Ikwerre Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Blessing Enyindah, urged Nigerians to remain hopeful despite the challenges confronting the country.

Drawing inspiration from Isaiah 49:14–15, where the prophet spoke of God’s unfailing love and remembrance of His people, Archbishop Enyindah said the biblical message remained relevant to Nigeria and its citizens.

“God is saying to Nigeria and Nigerians, I will not forget you. God has not forgotten Nigeria,” he declared.

He urged Nigerians to undertake a sincere examination of their character, promote honesty and integrity, improve productivity and contribute meaningfully to the development and progress of the country.

The service was attended by the State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi; the Bishop of Niger Delta North Diocese, Rt. Rev. Wisdom Ihunwo; the Chief of Staff, Government House, Barr. Sunny Ewule; and other dignitaries.

The event formed part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary and provided an opportunity for political, religious and community leaders to pray for peace, unity and continued development in Rivers State and Nigeria.
