DR. SAM OGBUKU MEETS PRESIDENT TINUBU, HIGHLIGHTS PROGRESS ON NDDC INTERVENTIONS.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, paid a scheduled visit to the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, where he briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on key projects being executed by the interventionist agency across the Niger Delta region.

Speaking after the meeting at the State House, Dr. Ogbuku said he had the honour of updating the President on the significant progress recorded in the completion of legacy projects, noting that the engagement provided an opportunity to reaffirm the Commission’s commitment to translating the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government into tangible and measurable outcomes for the people of the Niger Delta.

He attributed the successes recorded so far to the strong support from the Presidency and the clear directive to ensure the completion of all legacy projects for the benefit of the region. Among the projects highlighted were the hostel complex at Niger Delta University, the road project in Ikot Ekpene, and the electrification project in Oron, Akwa Ibom State. He also formally invited the President to commission the completed and near-completed projects as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to sustainable development.

Dr. Ogbuku explained that the Niger Delta University hostel project is designed to address long-standing accommodation challenges faced by students by providing a conducive living environment, reducing the burden of off-campus housing, and enhancing academic performance.

He further reiterated the Commission’s determination to deepen alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda while accelerating the delivery of other critical infrastructure projects at advanced stages. These include the Kaa–Ataba Road and Bridge in Rivers State, the Niger Delta Regional Specialist Hospital, and additional road projects in Ikot Ekpene. He also briefed the President on the Commission’s collaboration with the Delta State Government and Chevron Nigeria Limited on the 70.75-kilometre Omadino–Okerenkoko–Escravos Road and bridges in Warri North Local Government Area, a project considered vital to economic growth in the region.

Stakeholders and residents across the Niger Delta have continued to react to the briefing, commending the leadership of the NDDC while also calling for sustained momentum and broader project coverage. Some observers praised the Commission for improving visibility through projects such as solar-powered street lighting across rural and urban communities, as well as ongoing infrastructure like the Borikiri–Okrika link road and bridges.

Others urged the NDDC to give priority to additional critical projects, including the completion of the Otuogori and Etuegwe bridges linking local government areas, the dualisation of the Ogbia–Nembe–Brass road in Bayelsa State, and the development of strategic links such as the proposed connection between Obete in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State and Edem Idim in Ukanafun Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Community voices also highlighted the need to address abandoned or incomplete segments of previously executed projects, particularly spur roads in parts of Bayelsa State, noting their importance in connecting satellite communities and enhancing economic activities.

While commending Dr. Ogbuku’s leadership, several residents described the current phase of NDDC interventions as one that is beginning to justify the Commission’s establishment, expressing optimism that ongoing projects—especially major road and bridge initiatives—will be completed within record time.

The NDDC leadership reaffirmed its resolve to remain focused on delivering impactful projects that improve the quality of life in the Niger Delta, while justifying the confidence reposed in the Commission by the Federal Government.
