NIGERIA STEPS IN!
TINUBU ORDERS SECURITY SHIELD FOR GUINEA-BISSAU 2025 PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFUL
In a dramatic diplomatic twist that has gripped West Africa’s political scene, Nigeria has stepped forward as the unexpected guardian of democracy—offering full security protection to Guinea-Bissau’s presidential candidate Fernando Dia Da Costa, after intelligence confirmed threats to his life ahead of the November 2025 polls.
A confidential letter—now officially confirmed—dated November 30, 2025, and signed by Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu personally approved immediate protection for Da Costa inside the Nigerian Embassy in Bissau, turning the diplomatic mission into a fortified safe zone.
Sources inside Nigeria’s foreign policy circle say the intelligence warnings were “credible, urgent, and deeply troubling,” leaving Nigeria with no option but to intervene before violence erupts.
ECOWAS ALERTED — NIGERIA DEMANDS JOINT SECURITY OPERATION
The letter addressed to ECOWAS Commission President Dr. Omar Alieu Touray didn’t stop at local embassy protection.
Nigeria is calling for ECOWAS forces—especially the ECOWAS Stabilization Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB)—to deploy additional layers of security around the endangered candidate.
Diplomatic insiders say the move signals one of the strongest regional interventions against election-time intimidation in recent years.

DEMOCRACY UNDER THREAT — NIGERIA TAKES THE FRONT SEAT
The directive underscores Nigeria’s message to the region:
No political candidate must be hunted or silenced. Not on Nigeria’s watch. Not in West Africa.
Analysts say Tinubu’s move positions Nigeria as the new “referee” of West African democracy—stepping in at a time when coups, political assassinations, and intimidation have become disturbingly frequent.
One senior ECOWAS official put it bluntly: “Nigeria just stopped a potential political tragedy.”
WHY DA COSTA? WHY NOW?
Da Costa, considered one of the most competitive candidates in the upcoming polls, has seen his popularity surge—along with the threats against him.
Campaign insiders claim rival forces “want him out of the race by any means necessary.”
Nigeria’s intervention may have derailed a dangerous political plot.
WEST AFRICA WATCHES AS NIGERIA TAKES CHARGE
With Da Costa now sheltered under a combined Nigeria-ECOWAS protection net, tension in Guinea-Bissau is expected to ease—though not without raising eyebrows across the sub-region.
Diplomats say the implications are enormous: Nigeria is asserting regional authority.
ECOWAS is being forced into action.Political violence is being exposed and confronted.
The message is unmistakable:
Democracy will not be bullied in West Africa.
