RIVERS POLICE DISMISS VIRAL VIDEO AS FALSEHOOD, REASSURE PUBLIC OF ONGOING PEACE
The calm of a typical Tuesday morning in Rivers State was abruptly disrupted when a blurry video began spreading across social media, claiming that Fulani herdsmen had launched an attack which was supposedly repelled by Ijaw youths. Within minutes, fear rippled through communities as calls and messages circulated, drawing residents into a state of unnecessary panic.
But the Rivers State Police Command swiftly restored clarity. What many had feared to be true was nothing more than a carefully engineered piece of disinformation. The Command made it clear that no such attack took place—no confrontation, no threat, and no breach of peace in any part of the state. The viral clip, they said, was the handiwork of troublemakers bent on sowing ethnic tension and unsettling the steady calm that Rivers people enjoy.
Authorities emphasized that not a single incident of herdsmen violence had been reported across the state. The video, described as “entirely false, misleading, and designed to incite panic,” was dismissed as an attempt to misrepresent Rivers State and create an atmosphere of fear. The Police urged residents to refrain from sharing unverified content, reminding the public that misinformation, once unleashed, can spread faster than the truth.

Despite the false alarm, the Command reassured the populace that security in the state remains solid. Operational patrol teams, surveillance units, and tactical squads are fully active across key areas, working seamlessly with other security agencies to maintain law and order.
Under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, psc, mnips, the Command reiterated its commitment to transparent and proactive policing, ensuring that the daily lives of residents proceed without fear or interruption.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, ANIPR, confirmed on November 26, 2025, that the trending claims of a herdsmen attack were entirely false and should be ignored in their entirety.
She urged the public to stay calm and vigilant while exercising caution in their use of social media. “Verify information through official channels before sharing. Misinformation can heighten tension and disrupt the peace we collectively work to preserve,” she warned.
In the end, the truth emerged stronger than the rumour. Rivers State remains peaceful, secure, and unshaken by the false narrative that briefly stirred the online space.
