Port Harcourt, Rivers State — The Christian community in Port Harcourt is mourning the death of Pastor Nkechi Ene, co-founder and presiding pastor of The Carpenter’s Church, Rumueme Mike 4 Port Harcourt, Rivers state. The revered preacher, fondly known as Pastor Kech, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, after what sources described as a sudden health crisis in Lagos.
A statement signed by Pastor Sola Akinwale, on behalf of the church, confirmed the development, describing her passing as “a transition into glory” and “a time of deep reflection and gratitude for a life lived in total devotion to God.”
The Carpenter’s Church being a distinguished Ministry and a Unique Church, became a rallying place for urbane youths seeking God’s followship.

Pastor Nkechi Ene was widely respected in Port Harcourt’s Christian circles as a dynamic preacher, teacher of faith, and an articulate communicator of the Word. Together with her late ministry partner, Pastor Charles Omufoma, she co-founded The Carpenter’s Church, a congregation often described as an elite, well-structured, and deeply spiritual ministry.
Unlike many contemporary churches, The Carpenter’s Church maintained a single base in Port Harcourt and chose not to establish outreach centers or branches. This deliberate model, observers note, reflected the founders’ focus on depth of teaching and spiritual maturity rather than expansion.
The late Pastor Charles Omufoma passed away in 2013 a few years ago, leaving his Assistant, Pastor Ene to lead the ministry as presiding pastor. Under her leadership, the church continued to grow in influence and reputation, attracting professionals, families, and young people across the Niger Delta region.
Her final days was so abruptly spent as she arrived Lagos Nigeria after her overseas pastorial visitation and the Church’s respondd to her death is shocking and disbelief filed the church community at Port Harcourt and beyond.
According to the statement released by Pastor Akinwale, Pastor Ene had recently returned from an extensive international ministry trip marked by “miracles and testimonies.” Shortly after her return, she reportedly became exhausted and later developed complications while in Lagos.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing into glory of God’s servant, our presiding pastor, our mother-in-Israel, Pastor Nkechi Ene,” the statement read.
“As our hearts hurt and our minds wrestle with questions, we remain assured in the truth that God is good, and His mercies endure forever.”
The church called for calm among members and urged them to uphold the Ene family in prayers. Pastor Nkechi is survived by her husband, Brother Emeka Ene, and four daughters — Zoe, Chloe, Tracy, and Osi. She is also survived by her mother, Ma. Mercy Chijioke, as well as her siblings.
She lived a Life of Faith and with great Impact to the church parishioners.
Colleagues and church members describe Pastor Nkechi as a woman of remarkable faith, discipline, and compassion. Known for her clear Bible teaching and engaging delivery, she built her ministry on the principles of faith, integrity, and excellence.
“She lived what she preached,” one longtime church member told reporters. “Pastor Kech believed the Word of God absolutely. She was firm, yet loving; spiritual, yet deeply human.”
The church’s statement echoed similar sentiments. “We honour and celebrate one of the great generals of God in our generation — one who lived and taught the undiluted Word of God, danced with the Holy Spirit, and led by example. Her life was one of selfless service, faith, and profound love for God and humanity.”
Upon her death her Legacy Endures with the regular tele-gospel Tv show the Morning Dew attracting many viewers each time she delivered her broadcast.
The Carpenter’s Church has said it will release further details regarding memorial services in the coming days. In the meantime, the congregation has called on members to remain united in prayer and thanksgiving for a life that touched many.
Though her passing leaves a visible void, Pastor Nkechi Ene’s influence endures through her teachings, recordings, and the lives she shaped through over two decades of ministry “We celebrate God’s general, our mother-in-Israel,” the church’s message concluded. “The Lord is good, and His mercies endure forever. Praise God! Hallelujah! He is faithful.”
