RIVERS APC MOBILIZES WOMEN, YOUTHS AHEAD OF 2027 ELECTIONS

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has intensified its grassroots mobilisation of women and youths ahead of the 2027 general elections, with a strong emphasis on voter education and peaceful democratic participation.
Speaking at a TINUBU/SHETTIMA 2027 Grassroots Mobilisation and Voter Sensitisation programme themed “My PVC, My Power,” the Rivers State Coordinator, Office of the Director, Women Mobilisation, 2027 APC Presidential Campaign Council, Precious Alechi Iyeuwa, urged eligible citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards, engage continuously with their communities and take active part in the democratic process.
Iyeuwa described the gathering as more than a political rally. It was, she said, a deliberate platform for purposeful engagement with citizens—especially at the grassroots—on their duties and rights in a democracy.
My PVC Is My Voice, My Power
According to her, the Permanent Voter’s Card remains a critical instrument of democratic participation. She urged every eligible citizen to register where necessary, collect their PVCs, safeguard them and, when the time comes, use them responsibly, “My PVC is my voice. My PVC is my power.”
She stressed that citizens cannot legitimately complain about leadership while refusing to take part in the process that produces leaders. Likewise, they cannot demand development while abandoning their civic responsibilities, or leave their political destiny in the hands of others and still expect the future they desire.
Okocha Represents Betta Edu; Ochoma Hosts
A key highlight of the programme was the presence of Chief Tony Okocha, DSSRS, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, who, according to the organisers, represented Dr. Betta Chimaobim Edu, Director of Women Mobilisation of the 2027 APC Presidential Campaign Council.
Iyeuwa specifically acknowledged Okocha as Chief Host and thanked him for his leadership, political courage and commitment to strengthening the APC in Rivers State. She said his presence and support meant a great deal to the organisers.
Chief Tony Okocha has been publicly identified as chairman of the Rivers State APC. The party reaffirmed his chairmanship in August 2025 following his election as substantive state chairman at the November 2024 state delegates’ congress.
She also acknowledged Dr. Betta Edu’s central role in the grassroots women mobilisation initiative. Recent reports on the composition of the APC’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council list Edu as the council’s Director of Women Mobilisation. Dr. Edu previously served as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
The speaker further recognised Hon. Solomon Abuba Ochoma, Executive Chairman of Ahoada East Local Government Council, as host of the programme, expressing appreciation for his support.
Also acknowledged were the keynote speaker, Dr. Mrs. Sylvia Tonye Cole, and special guests including Lady Esther Victor Giadom (wife of the APC National Vice Chairman, South South), Lady Ogechi Tony Okocha (wife of the Rivers State APC Chairman), and Constance Marshall Harry, Esq., a former NNPC Board Member.
Iyeuwa extended greetings to women leaders, youth leaders, ward and LGA coordinators, party executives, stakeholders, supporters and all faithful members of the APC present.
“The Grassroots Must Be Heard”
Iyeuwa said the mission of the mobilisation was to take the message of voter education beyond political offices and conference halls into wards, communities, women’s groups, churches and every corner of Rivers State.
Politics, she argued, must not be confined to election periods. It must involve continuous engagement with the people: listening to communities, understanding their concerns, communicating a clear vision, and—above all—encouraging peaceful, responsible and informed participation, “We must listen to our communities. We must understand their concerns. We must communicate our vision. And most importantly, we must encourage peaceful, responsible and informed participation.”
Mobilising Support for Tinubu, Shettima and Rivers APC Candidates
As members and supporters of the All Progressives Congress, Iyeuwa said, participants were mobilising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima and for the continuation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
She also called for backing of APC candidates across all levels of government and for the strengthening of the party at the grassroots. She specifically urged mobilisation behind the Rivers APC governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Ogundu Kingsley Chindah, his deputy, Hon. Major Jack, and all APC National Assembly and State House of Assembly candidates in Rivers State.
The campaign, she insisted, must rest on organisation, communication, inclusiveness and genuine engagement with the people, “We must not merely tell people what to vote for. We must educate them. We must engage them. We must listen to them. We must earn their confidence.”
A Message to the Women of Rivers State
Addressing women across the state, Iyeuwa declared that their time is now. Women, she said, are not merely supporters of political movements; they are leaders, organisers, voters, community builders and powerful agents of political and social transformation, “When women organise, communities move. When women participate, democracy becomes stronger. When women vote, families and communities have a voice in determining their future.”
She called on every woman in Rivers State to obtain her PVC, encourage other women to do the same, educate their communities, participate peacefully and take their rightful place in democracy.
A Challenge to Young People
Turning to the youth, Iyeuwa was emphatic: “Your future cannot be outsourced. Do not leave politics to other people. Get involved. Ask questions. Participate peacefully. And take your rightful place in shaping the future of our country.”
She added that the Nigeria citizens desire will not be built by spectators, but by citizens willing to participate.
Commitment to Peaceful Engagement
In her closing remarks, Iyeuwa called on APC members, supporters and stakeholders to commit themselves to peaceful, responsible and intelligent political engagement. She urged them to mobilise with dignity, campaign with facts, engage with respect and organise at the grassroots.
The ultimate goal, she said, is to ensure that every eligible citizen possesses both the confidence and the knowledge to participate meaningfully in the democratic process.
The programme therefore combined voter sensitisation, women mobilisation, youth engagement and grassroots political organisation as part of the APC’s preparations for the 2027 electoral cycle.
