MUMA GEE ANNOUNCES THREE-CITY COMEBACK CONCERT, KICKS OFF IN PORT HARCOURT in Port Harcourt AFTER 15-YEAR HIATUS
After 15 years away from the spotlight, Port Harcourt music icon and leading African artiste Gift Eke, popularly known as Muma Gee, is bouncing back to shake the music industry. The songwriter, stage performer, thespian and social figure of international repute held a world press conference on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, in Port Harcourt City, Rivers State, where she announced her comeback concert and latest album.
Comeback Concert Details
The epoch-making event, tagged the Muma Gee Comeback Concert, will take place on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, at Tamsil Gardens, 7A Abacha Road, GRA Phase 3, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. She plans to follow it with performances in Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
According to her statement during the press conference held at Port Harcourt City, Rivers State on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, the concert is designed not only to officially announce her return but also to create an ambiance for fans, friends and family to share in the energy of the renewed, reformed and refreshed music icon.
Personal Rebuilding and Role Model
Muma Gee said she used her years away from the industry to rebuild her life. She married, became a mother of three, and is now a single parent. She also returned to the University of Port Harcourt, where she is in her final year studying Law. Citing her deep love for the music that first brought her fame, she named South African icon Miriam Makeba as a role model and explained why the comeback begins in her home state.
“As a Rivers State-born indigene, charity begins at home. I can’t jump the gun by going to Lagos first because the gods of my land and my ancestors would be angry with me. I am a High Chief. I am not fetish, but I respect tradition. That is why I am bringing this concert to Rivers State,” she said.
New Music and Gen Z Direction
Fans can expect a shift toward Gen Z sounds that reflect current trends. Her energetic vocal prowess and stylistic stage craftsmanship are already evident in her new material, including the love song “Killing Me,” which forms part of her latest album.
Call for Government Support and Return of CARNIRIV
Muma Gee used the occasion to criticize the current Rivers State government’s limited support for the entertainment industry. She recalled that under former governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, each Rivers-based artist received ₦10 million after Burna Boy’s Port Harcourt show. She also called for the return of Carniriv, the state’s carnival, describing it as a vital platform for local talent.
Port Harcourt musician Fortune Nada echoed the call, noting that the Bole Festival has largely displaced Carniriv and praising the earlier ₦10 million support she herself received.
Fellow Port Harcourt artist Maxi Kabiesi blamed the absence of strong territorial television channels for keeping local musicians looking “local,” contrasting the situation with Lagos platforms such as Soundcity and MTV.
Embracing New Media
Muma Gee urged artists to embrace online and new media to reach international audiences. She said that in the past six years she has travelled abroad for music business and built an international presence despite the lack of strong local broadcast platforms.
Challenging Stereotypes About Female Artists
Addressing the lingering stereotype that young women in music are “never-do-wells,” she rejected the notion. “Gone are the days when such negative labels were attached to female artists. I run the Muma Gee Foundation and its ‘Voice of the Girl-Child’ project. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts, a marketing certificate from the former Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori, and I am a final-year Law student at the University of Port Harcourt. I am a single mother of three, an entrepreneur, and that is how I survive. A girl who wants to be wayward will be wayward, just as a boy who wants to smoke Indian hemp will do so whether or not he is a musician.”
She added that she has never tasted alcohol but would gladly accept promotional work from alcohol brands if offered, stressing personal responsibility: “If you want your sanity, you will keep your sanity.”
Final Appeal
Muma Gee called on the Rivers State government to resume meaningful support for the entertainment sector, noting that many practitioners are family people who need institutional backing to thrive. She promised that her new material and performances will reflect the sounds and trends of the Gen Z generation.
