IMO STATE DEPUTY GOVERNOR CHINYERE EKOMARU RESIGNS, NEW NOMINEE EXPECTED
By Emeka Amaefula
The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Chinyere Ekomaru, has resigned from office. The development was officially announced by the office of the Executive Governor, Hope Uzodimma.
Following her resignation, a new deputy governor is expected to be nominated by the governor in line with constitutional provisions. The Imo State House of Assembly will subsequently screen and confirm the nominee before he or she is sworn into office.
Although no formal reason has been given for her decision, political observers suggest that Ekomaru’s resignation may not be unconnected with her future political ambitions. There is growing speculation that she may contest for a Senate seat and potentially position herself for the governorship in the future, especially as the Owerri Senatorial Zone is widely expected to produce the next governor under the state’s Charter of Equity arrangement.
