By Barr. Vitalis Unachukwu A CURSORY LOOK AND REVIEW OF THE HARD BALL POLITICS OF MOST DIEHARD POLITICIANS FROM THE NORTHERN NIGERIA Most diehard politicians from the North, erroneously thought that, it would be politics of gains and pleasure as usual, under our contemporary political circumstances, without realizing that the political tide is changing, and that politicians from the South as well as Nigerians, are no more political dummies, meant to allow them do things their way, without due recourse to the rest of the country . After all, what’s the overall purpose of democracy in our body politic? Who and what arrogated the North the superior power to treat the South with political ignominy and disrespect in the political leadership of our nation ? What constitutional right does the North have in determining the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria , and the inordinate zoning of political offices and positions, to the extent of grabbing all sensitive positions in government, and boastfully denying and depriving the other major ethnic partners, equal rights to political positions and offices in the government of the Federation ? It’s as undemocratic as it’s deplorable n any democratic government of any nation.
How can there be peace and national unity in the face of glaring injustice in power structure and imbalance in the nation ? Even in Wike’s current fight in PDP, there’s no way the North would have their way, after subjecting and subjugating the South to the level of an orphan , delighted in beating the orphan and turned back to urge or caution the child not to cry . That was one of the main reasons, Dim Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu, went to war with Yakubu Gowon and Nigeria , on the other side of the national conflict, after the declaration of the Republic of Biafra . The failure of General Gowon and his questionable administration then, to comply with the Terms of Agreement reached at Aburi, Ghana , where Ojukwu and Gowon sealed their enmity with friendly handshake , after a gentleman’s understanding of the success of the Aburi Conference . Gowon returned to Lagos , after the Conference and allowed his officials in his government to poison his mind and thinker with the clear letters of the Terms of Peace reached at Aburi , Ghana , which ultimately resulted in the inevitable bloody civil war, that lasted two and half years , which could have been avoided , if Gowon proved himself, a gentleman, in the compliance of such vital terms of peace agreement, reached with Ojukwu, his counterpart at the Aburi Conference, who felt slighted and had no option than to vent his frustration and show his grievances in the unilateral discarding of that important peace agreement, that could have avoided the enormity and complacency of the Biafra-Nigeria Civil War (1967 – 1970), that caused both sides enormous human carnage and losses .Has any lessons been learnt from botched agreements of the past at national, regional and international levels ? I hope not.Today in Nigeria, it seems to be the case and tempers are rising beyond capacity degrees.
That’s why it’s good, Wike is a necessary evil in PDP. The so-called diehard politicians from the North, who still think that the rest of Nigerians are dumb, deserve roughshod bloody noses and a good fight for their political inconsistencies, inconsiderate and ruthless power drunkenness.
For courageously standing behind what’s due to the South, Wike’s fight against his party chieftains, is just , even though, he originally undertook a political frolic of his own from the onset , to satisfy a personal political ambition and lost .As a wounded python, he is deadly inclined in compelling PDP Chairman, Ayu , who also circumvented the Party Constitutional Provisions on zoning and robbed the South East Geopolitical Zone, the legitimate chance , turn and right , to produce the Party’s Presidential Flag Bearer and eventually the next Nigeria’s President, to honor the agreement that he resigns after the party’s presidential flag bearer emerges from the North .Even though their fight borne out of political nemesis, is of no political consequence to us, in view of the political momentum of innumerable, Obidient Nigerians in the democratic mass movement routing for Peter Obi for President. PDP robbed Ndigbo of a Presidential Flag Bearer from the party, out of power greed and injustice, which God took care of in Peter Obi from the Labour Party.
PDP has no South East support as it used to be during Goodluck Jonathan Presidency. As long as diehard politicians from the North, do not come clean in their hard ball politics of the country, and as long as they regard the South as inconsequential or take us for granted in the governance of the country, Nigeria would never be at peace or their own as a nation, as they erroneously thought from political independence. The leadership of Nigeria has been bastardized by lawless and inexperienced politicians from the North, who have no regard for the Rule of Law and the Constitution, which’s the supreme law of the land. Most Southern Politicians out of hunger, poverty and insatiable love for money inducement from the North, blindly chose to play a second fiddle and run errands for our ethnic partners, thereby hurting our common ethnic interests and entitlements in the leadership and governance of the country .It’s scandalous and grave injustice how the President of the country, especially the incumbent, lame duck one , could commit impeachable constitutional offenses, violating the Constitutional Principles of State Policy like Federal Character on Federal Appointments etc , and is not called to order or taken to legal tasks , by a courageous National Assembly, because the leadership of the National Assembly also come from the North and have no shame or conscience being a political appendage of the Presidency and Executive Arm of Government .We believe the North must be made to pay for all abuses and injustices perpetrated against the South , and should be made to wait , for the South East to catch up and produce the next President, Peter Obi, or the unrepentant and unreasonable politicians from the North, would by their unjust actions, be incinerating and dragging Nigeria into another bloody civil war, which they could ill-afford under the current political climate .No nation on earth could tolerate the level of provocative injustices in Nigeria, unleashed by the North on the South.
That was what happened in Sudan, before the international community carved out Southern Sudan as a separate and an independent country today. Nigeria runs the same risks to be broken down into independent political entities, if those abuses and injustices do not stop or addressed in the interests of peace, justice, equity and fairness. All the troubles in the world emanate from the ambit of injustice, deprivation of basic freedoms and equal rights. Wars are fought on the basis of grave injustices on humanity, when you review the chronicle of intertribal wars, national and international conflicts, which resulted into wars of uncontrollable proportions that brought pain, destruction and regrets to our humanity.
Yet, Northern diehard politicians, who double as political opportunists, do not care a heck of what happens to Nigeria or what may likely befall them and Nigeria as a nation, with their hard ball politics, that threaten the peace in Nigeria. It’s hard time the South stand politically and structurally united against the North, and make them learn the bitterest lesson, that Nigeria belongs to all of us and does not belong to them alone. As long as the North fails to re-educate their political class of this indefensible fact, they should be ready to bear the brunt of political suicide, which gives vent to a political revolution that would ultimately lead to their overthrow, despite their monetary power, which Nigerians are no more interested in. We are already in the New Normal and no one doubts today about the inevitable wind of change along with the change of the political tide, that has made the mass movement of Nigerians wake up from slumber, to agitate for leadership change in a manner never seen before .These mass of Nigerians currently undertaking millions of marches in knockout support to Peter Obi-Yusuf Datti Baba Ahmed and the Labour Party, are not kidding and are poised to ensuring that their popular will at the next elections prevail, irrespective of INEC’s unfortunate plot to undermine the integrity and credibility of our nation’s democratic and electoral process. The will of the people, must prevail this time around, unless those unpatriotic elements in INEC, PDP and APC, want Nigeria’s history written in bloody ink. Whatever may be their mindsets, they would definitely be stopped by God Almighty, who would give them more than they bargained for, and show them that the long rope they chose, is for hanging themselves, when they refused to make intelligent use of opportunities given to them to make political amends. They chose to make themselves political enemies to God and His people in Nigeria. Political leadership change is inevitable in Nigeria, as the whirlwind of democratic leadership change is sweeping and blowing across the country, without no worries about its outcome. When the political game or any game at all, is played according to the rules, it can never be complicated and it’s outcome regarding whoever emerges champion, raises no eyebrows, because victory through due applications and compliance of the rules, were unambiguous, fair , just and equitable to all concerned .
Recall the 4 -Ways Test of the Rotary Club International: 1. Is it Fair? 2. Is it the truth? 3. Will it build better Friendship? 4. Will it be Beneficial to
All concerned? So far, most Northern Nigeria Politicians, have never embraced or followed justice, equity and fairness, in their dealings with the South , which neglect has engendered politics of bad blood, ethnic rivalries, distrust of the highest level of partnership and revolutionary tendencies of the downtrodden, who now stand poised to dare their political oppressors, detractors, abusers and rapists .The hour is here. Even the blind, dumb and doubting Thomases, would acknowledge the fact that our nation’s soul is at stake and those who make peaceful leadership change impossible, make. Violent leadership changes inevitable. May God Almighty continue to perfect His plans for the future of our nation to accomplishment, cleansing, weeding off political dead woods who stand as clog on our nation’s wheel of progress and democratic advancement and resetting Nigeria into a refined political and economic giant in the Comity of Nations under God.
Have an awesome weekend ahead folks and all lovers of democratic freedom in Nigeria and around the world. Barrister Vitalis Unachukwu is a resident of Philadelphia Commonwealth state of Pennsylvania, USA | |
