AT 91, GENERAL GOWON REFUTES SOCIAL MEDIA DEATH CLAIMS

In a swift clarification, Adeyeye Ajayi, personal assistant to former military head of state General Yakubu Gowon, has dismissed recent reports of the 91-year-old leader’s death as “fake news.” Ajayi shared a brief statement quoting the elder statesman directly, with Gowon assuring the public: “I am still around and well. I am not in a hurry to meet my maker.”

The personal assistant urged Nigerians to disregard the circulating rumours on social media, emphasizing that they are entirely unfounded. According to Ajayi, General Gowon remains in good health, continuing to attend public functions and actively contributing as a voice of reason and guidance on matters of national importance.

Over the years, Gowon has been widely respected for his role in fostering national unity and providing counsel on Nigeria’s socio-economic and political development. Despite his advanced age, he continues to engage with citizens, offering insights drawn from his decades of leadership experience.

The recent social media chatter, Ajayi noted, is misleading and not reflective of Gowon’s current condition. As the nation navigates ongoing challenges, the former leader’s presence remains a reassuring symbol of stability, wisdom, and continuity for many Nigerians who have followed his remarkable journey from military leadership to statesmanship.
