MEET PROFESSOR  NENTAWE GOSHWE YILWATDA NEWLY ELECTED NATIONAL CHAIRMAN ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (APC).


The replacement of the former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC, Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, by Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda took place on Thursday 24th of July,2025  came to many Nigerians with fixated attention by his nomination.  What many do not understand is the policy masterstroke which President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is re-strategizing ahead of his re- election in 2027. 

A bold search into the background of Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda  reveals that he was born on August 8, 1968, in Dungung, Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State. He started his mind career education by obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, a Master’s degree from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, and a PhD in Digital Systems Engineering from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

His work experience included his employment as a senior lecturer and Director of ICT at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, for over 29 years. Thereafter, he served as a Resident Electoral Commissioner with Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC from 2017 to 2021, where he introduced progressive policies that improved voter inclusion in Nigeria’s electoral system.

During the 2022 APC Plateau State gubernatorial primary election he was successful having won as the APC Governorship candidate. But during the March 18th 2023 Governorship election he lost to the People’s Democratic party PDP candidate.

He worked assiduously to the success of Bola Ahmed Tinubu/SHETTIMA Presidential Election campaign Organization where he was Plateau State Co-ordinator for the 2023 Presidential Election that took place on February 23,2023

  Subsequently, he was nominated by President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, where he has contributed much in reshaping Nigeria’s social protection framework and poverty alleviation strategies.

He is expected to bring his wealth of experiences to rejig the drive that will introduce innovation in Party organizations and operation that will strengthen grassroots structures, and restore cohesion among party ranks as the new APC National Chairman. Generally, he was unanimously elected by the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) that met at the Presidential Villa, Rock Abuja Meeting Hall, on July 24, 2025, following the resignation of former chairman Abdullahi Ganduje due to health concern.

Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda is ably seen as a technocrat who can redefine the APC’s image, especially among Nigeria’s growing youthful electorate, and lead the party to success in future elections especially for the upcoming midterm off circle elections in most state of the federation prior to the 2027 General elections. 

With the emergence of vibrant opposition political parties such as the Coalition group under the banner of African Democratic Party -ADC, Prof. Nantewe Goshwe Yilwatda has much work to do for APC.
