HOW PORT HARCOURT CELEBRITY LADY SOTONYE TOBY-FULTON FOUNDED RIVERS WOMEN UNITE FOR SIMINIALAYI FUBARA
In every election period women play major roles in voting in great numbers for the political leaders of their choice and Rivers state women irrespective of the political affiliation needed coordination and ebullient young Lady Sotonye Toby-Fulton a very brilliant and vibrant member of Peoples Democratic Party and former Commissioner Rivers State Civil Service Commission has extensive experiences in leadership. Thus, she is the founder of Rivers state Women Unite For Sim, a prayer group consisting of women with diverse political backgrounds but united for their support for Governor Siminialayi Fubara.
On 2nd September 2024 she led other women in Rivers state to the inauguration of ONELGA and TAI Local government Areas chapters of Rivers state women Unite For Sim with praise and worship sessions held separately. The ceremonies attracted a large crowd of women who turned out organically in support of Governor Siminialayi Fubara. Chief Sotonye Toby-Fulton in her expression of gratitude to God for answering the prayers of women with their support for not allowing those who claimed to own Rivers state to illegally impeach the Governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara an action she said that gave rise to the unity of Rivers women to gather together in prayers and supplications unto God as they rally support for Governor Siminialayi Fubara.
During the prayer session the convener Chief Toby-Fulton who as well represented Rivers state First Lady Valerie Fubara recounted the ordeal of the Rivers state Governor myriad of events that took place since October 2023 to date as she prayed that such will not repeat itself again as Rivers state women are ready to down on their knees to fast and pray for God to sustain, guide, and protect the Rivers state Governor to also give him more wisdom to pilot the affairs of the state to a greater developmental level. She relayed the message from Rivers state First Lady Valerie Fubara who urged Rivers state women to always be present when they are called upon to do so as she assured them about the ability of the Governor in piloting the affairs of the state being a very young man who is well behaved.
The Governor of Rivers state she said will soon clean up the mess he met in Rivers state upon assumption of duties promising that the Rivers state Chief executive will soon embark on the empowerment of women which she said will reach the grassroot in every nook and cranny of the state.
The Caretaker Committee chairman of Tai Local Government Area , Honourable Matthew Dike distributed Wheelchairs and several gift items to the less privileged physically challenged persons. He praised Chief Toby-Fulton for show of consistency in gathering Rivers state women to pray for peace in Rivers state and for the protection of the life of Rivers state Governor against detractors and external aggressors who he said are the enemies of the state. He urged Rivers state women to continue to pray for Governor Siminialayi Fubara to succeed in all that he is doing in life and for the well-being of the state.
The workaholic founder, of Rivers state Women Unite for Sim has been an advocate for peace and a woman whose contacts with grassroot women in Rivers state has yielded results as they have promised to continue to support Governor Siminialayi and his amiable wife Lady Valerie Fubara as they carry on their duties of making Rivers state better to the glory of God.
In this vein, she is going around all the 23 Local Government Areas of the state inaugurating Rivers state Women Unite For Sim support groups with empowerment support for women coming from the Caretaker Committee Chairmen of the Local Government Areas following their support for the Women and other affiliate groups.
She is a woman of substance with impeccable character and with progressive mind of fostering unity among people of different backgrounds. This earned her recognition in 2022 when the Women’s Guild of Saint Cyprian’s Anglican Church Port Harcourt honoured her with “Conference Mother”. In an interview 2015 while responding to Global Excellence reporter’s question on the views of the society on women being seen and not heard she said “ This is certainly one of the discriminatory tendencies that must be eliminated from our society. Women must have an opportunity to express themselves but canvas for the same positions with men. The idea of women being seen and not heard is primitive and should be discouraged at all cost.”
Lady Sotonye Toby-Fulton earned a degree in Management studies from University of Port Harcourt with diverse entrepreneurial talents in hospitality and Media being the founder of Toby-Jug entertainment outfit and The Gist magazine a veritable global standard news outlet. She was once Chairperson of Rivers state Independent Publishers’ Association-RIVPA. Her unparalleled love for the care of indigent persons and leadership roles for a better society has led her to devoting her time for the service of humanity as she invests in progressive ventures that will advance the well-being of persons both less privileged individuals and the downtrodden in the society. Her Toby Jug Foundation www.tobyjug.org is an arm of her humanitarian organization with which she reaches out to various less privileged facilities including Port Harcourt Cheshire Homes, Home For the Elderly Port Harcourt and many other bodies desiring urgent humanitarian attention.
As the Rivers State Women Unite For Sim convener, she is the brain behind mobilization of Rivers state women to support the most peaceful Governor in Nigeria, Sir Siminialayi Fubara as he administers the affairs of good people of Rivers state.
