PORT HARCOURT CELEBRITY LADY—DR. DORIS FISHER BURIED AT LAGOS
The celebrity social circuit in Port Harcourt has lost one of their own Dr. Doris Fisher who died some weeks back precisely on Wednesday 5th of June, 2024. Her death shook the entire city of Port Harcourt because of her special ways of doing things being a gentle well-bred lady who gave her all in her medical profession and in her later contributions to the development of her fatherland Rivers state and Nigeria as an administrator of repute.
Her death followed a complicated successful surgery after she suffered from Kidney malfunctioning as the news of her death filtered into the town. And majority of her admirers were taken in awe about what must have transpired to result in the death of a beautiful lady and mother of two handsome men from her first husband Mr. Gbenga Fisher. She later remarried to former Military Governor a Cross River state born statesman, Cowan who she followed till her death.
In her lifetime, the Princess Dr. Doris Daba Fisher nee Amachree was born in a royal family in Asari Toru Local Government Area of Rivers state. She studied Medicine and Surgery and was employed by the Military Hospital service where she served at the Military Hospital Lagos. Later she returned to her fatherland where she was appointed Executive Chairperson of Rivers state Primary Schools Management Board named Rivers state State Universal Basic Primary Board SUBEB. During the administration of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Dr. Doris was appointed as Commissioner for Water Resources. She aspired to be elected as Senator representing Rivers West senatorial District under Peoples Democratic Party-PDP.
Dr. Doris Daba Fisher was born on 19th of April 1955 to the royal family of Ojuka Amachree War canoe House of Buguma in Asari Toru Local government area of Rivers state. The funeral services were organized at her Lagos home with the Service of Songs held on 3rd July 2024 at Harbour Point, 4 Wilmot Point Road, Off Ahmadu Bello way Victoria Island Lagos. The funeral service was held at 11am on Friday 5th of July, 2024 at Our Saviour’s Church, Tafawa Balewa Square Ikoyi, Lagos. And immediately after her internment was held reception for guests and mourners was held at 4 Wilmot Point Road Off Ahmadu Bello way, Victoria Island, Lagos.
She was survived by her two adult sons Lanre Fisher and Deji Fisher with her grandchildren Oladara Fisher, Jaiyeola fisher, Taiwo Fisher, Ibilola Fisher and Afolabi Fisher. She also left behind siblings including Ms. Stella Amachree, Mrs Anita and Alade Agbabiaka et al.
