 NDDC RIVERS STATE REPRESENTATIVE –CHIEF TONY OKOCHA DONATES SCHOOL DESKS IN CSS RUMUEKINI

Moved by the unacceptable sight of secondary school students sitting on the floor while lessons were going on in Community Secondary School Rumuekini town in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers state Chief Tony Okocha, the Rivers state Representative at the 7th Management Board of Niger Delta Development Commission-NDDC on Friday 24th of May, 2024 presented 100 pieces of 5-seater Mahogany produced School Desks. According to Chief Tony Okocha CSS Rumuekini is a Community constructed Secondary School sandwiched by University of Port Harcourt and sprawling satellite town of Aluu in Ikwerre Local Government Area with high density population of the University of Port Harcourt Community. He described the scenario as unacceptable for what may be seen happening in the remote hinterland is now been witnessed inside the city centre of Port Harcourt. His palpable of the dilapidated situation of other physical plants that ought to enhance learning such the building housing Classrooms and administrative blocks all having low integrity for the safety of the members of faculty and the over populated students.

For the hardworking Rivers state politician and administrator who is also Chairman of Caretaker Committee All Progressives Congress Rivers state, following the Renewed Hope mantra of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after he had discussion with some of the political stakeholders from the community, as he said “ I took a dash sometime ago to this school. Somebody hinted me. My concern the day I came wasn’t the building as such, though I saw the building as terrible as it was, and still is. My major concern was how could students study and comprehend what they are taught in that kind of unbearable environment. They sit on the bare floor and learn. I thought this type of thing can only happen in the suburbs of smaller states, and not in the town in Rivers state, and not in the town of Rivers state. Few minutes away from here you will be at University of Port Harcourt and another few minutes away from here you will be in Aluu community in Ikwerre Local Government Area.”

Since Chief Tony Okocha took charge as representative of Rivers state at the 7th Governing Board of NDDC, he has been able to inject and revive the stated objectives of Federal government setting up Niger Delta development Commission which is for the overall development of the 9  Oil producing states with projects akin to overcoming the difficult terrain of Niger Delta that has defied even development across board.

In view of what NDDC has been associated with in the negative form of being a Cash cow for politicians he asserted that the 7th Management Board remain different for all Board members are focused in bringing development down to the people of Niger Delta region. The Community Development Committee Chairman of Rumuekini Akani Gentle in his Welcome address said “It is on record Sir, that overtime, board members of various institutions and some political leaders in our cherished state have not considered Rumuekini in fundamental, social and infrastructural issues as you have done today. Beyond that our amiable Chief, the community Secondary school you visited today with the aforementioned desk, in your physical view now is heavily dilapidated structures and without adequate desks for years. It is awesome Sir to bring to your notice that this gigantic School is a community self-help project.”

He highlighted areas of needs for development in the community which require urgent interventions to include “lack of accessible road to Community Secondary school Rumuekini, Installation of solar Light within the school premises and street light to beef-up security, Construction of an ICT Centre in the community Secondary School, Rumuekini, Construction and equipping of a functional Laboratory Hall in community Secondary School, Rumuekini. Construction of Classrooms in Community Secondary School Rumuekini. Rehabilitation of existing Classrooms in Community Secondary School, Rumuekini.

In appreciation of his wonderful developmental project and for those he will do for the community in the future he was rewarded with a traditional title with presentation of George traditional wrapper and a Live Goat and Yam tubers as required by the Community tradition of display of good hospitality for a special guest.

Away from the presentation of 100 Mahogany made Desks, Chief Tony Okocha also visited Emergency Construction of Town Hall at Nkpolu Rumuigbo, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers state a project being embarked by NDDC which has reached advance stage, truly Chief Tony Okocha is living and following the motto of NDDC which “Determine to make a Difference…”
