ALVANA ’80s PORT HARCOURT DIGITAL ALUMNI LIGHT UP OWERRI WITH REUNION

Owerri came alive on Saturday, 13 December 2025, as the Alvana ’80s Port Harcourt City Digital Association, an affiliate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and now of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri, held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and reunion at the Golden Tulip Essential Hotel Owerri, opposite Government College along Okigwe Road, Owerri, Imo State. The well-attended gathering brought together members of the Port Harcourt–based association, proud graduates of the former Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri, for a memorable reunion retreat in the Imo State capital.

The meeting was presided over by Chairman Mr. Humphrey Odum, who led the convergence of members from different locations to reconnect, deliberate, and strengthen the bonds that have endured since their student days. Among the star-studded attendees were High Chief Fidel Enyinna, Barrister Kelechi Oparanozie, United States–based Mr. Ogechi Nwanekwu, Mr. Emeka Amaefula, Dr. (Mrs.) Love Alozie nee Ihewulezi, Dr. (Mrs.) Ijeoma Ike-Inegbu, Mrs. Egu Mirian, Mrs. Esther Okoji, Mrs. Priscilla Umoren, Mrs. Maureen Jonas-Ukaegbu, Dr. (Mrs.) Jackline Anya, Mr. Emeka Charles Anaba, Mr. Okechukwu Ufomadu, Mr. Bassey Ogbonna, Sir Chikezie Obi, Mrs. Ifenyinwa Ekezie, Mrs. Chimunanya Juliet Elenwoke, Mrs. Lynda Anowe, Mrs. Uzoma Judith Ufomba, Dr.(Ms.) Love Isiguzo, Senior Citizen Mrs. Joy Ukpaghari, et al.

In his opening speech, Chairman Humphrey Odum said, “I bring you warm greetings of joy from the Garden City. I feel very highly elated that we are alive to witness this year’s Annual General Meeting and End of Year party. We give our Almighty God all the glory. Not only that, we moved from our Garden City, Port Harcourt base, to Owerri, ‘The Eastern Heartland,’ courtesy of no other than our brother, friend, and schoolmate, High Chief Fidel Enyinna. In his magnanimity, he thought it wise to bring all of us to Owerri and offered us the comfort of his 5-star hotel to savour the facilities it offers at no cost to our association.”

The reunion was a vibrant mix of business, fun, and nostalgia. During the AGM’s business sessions, members reviewed key resolutions, including strategies for admitting new members, enhancing member welfare, and promoting stronger social engagement. The association’s 2025 financial records were also reviewed, reflecting transparency and accountability.

After the business sessions, members indulged in a lavish dinner featuring traditional Igbo Ugba (oil bean) salad alongside an extensive buffet of continental and intercontinental dishes, beautifully presented for everyone’s enjoyment. The celebrations intensified with a lively dance session in which female members competed in a friendly and entertaining contest. High Chief Fidel Enyinna generously sponsored the ₦50,000 prize, and each participant received a cash award. The competition was adjudicated by Daleware US-based Ogechi Nwanekwu, Chikezie Obi and Barrister Kelechi Oparanozie serving as co-judge.
