SOLUDO SWEEPS 19 LGAS AS INEC AWAITS FINAL RESULTS
Governor on Track for Historic Re-Election Across Anambra
By Emeka Amaefula
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has taken a commanding lead in the ongoing governorship election, clinching victory in 19 out of 21 local government areas so far announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to official results released by INEC late Saturday night and into the early hours of Sunday, Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), scored wide margins across the declared local government areas, leaving his closest rivals far behind.
The declared LGAs include Dunukofia, Njikoka, Ogbaru, Awka North, Awka South, Orumba North, Orumba South, Aguata, and Ekwusigo. Others are Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Anaocha, Idemili North, Idemili South, Onitsha North, Onitsha South, Oyi, Ayamelum, and Anambra East.
With only Ihiala and Anambra West local government areas yet to be declared, the results so far point to an emphatic endorsement of Soludo’s leadership and performance in his first term.
INEC Takes Short Break Before Final Declaration
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the Anambra State collation centre in Awka announced a brief one-hour recess around 5:00 a.m. on Sunday. The exercise is expected to resume by 6:00 a.m., when results from the remaining two local governments will be presented and the final declaration made.
A Historic Continuity for APGA
If the ongoing trend holds, Prof. Soludo will make history as the third consecutive APGA governor to secure a second term in office, following in the footsteps of Mr. Peter Obi and Chief Willie Obiano.
Political observers note that the result underscores APGA’s enduring influence in Anambra politics and the people’s confidence in Soludo’s “Solution Agenda” — his administration’s blueprint focused on infrastructure renewal, youth empowerment, and economic transformation.
Celebrations Begin Across Major Towns
Across Awka, Nnewi, and Onitsha, early celebrations erupted among APGA supporters and residents who gathered at viewing centres and party offices to monitor the collation of results. Supporters waved APGA flags and chanted solidarity songs, describing Soludo’s performance as a reward for “good governance and people-oriented policies.”
As the state awaits INEC’s official declaration of the final results, all eyes remain on Ihiala and Anambra West — the two remaining battlegrounds that will confirm what many already describe as an “inevitable landslide” for Governor Soludo.
