  NATIONAL POPULATION COMMISSION CENSUS 2023 ADMINISTERS OATH OF SECRECY TO 1772 FACILITATORS IN RIVERS STATE

The 2023 digital Population Census in Nigeria took a new development with adequate preparation of ad hoc staff who have been trained to carry out activities during the 2023 Census exercise as it administered Oath of Secrecy to 1,772 Facilitators who participated in Train-The Trainers programme which took place in Rivers state on Sunday 5th of February, 2023. The Chairman National Census Committee Dr. Ipalibo Macdonald Harry who is also Federal Commissioner National Population Commission was slated to be the guest of Honour at the Occasion. The train the Trainers 10-days exercise in Rivers state took place from 26th of January to Sunday 5th of February, 2023 at two designated centres of Wesley Methodist Girls Secondary school Harbour Road, Port Harcourt and at Saint John’s Campus of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Port Harcourt.

The Chief Magistrate ILANYE BROWN who administered the Oath of Secrecy charged the Facilitators to be honest with their job in data capturing of the population figures of citizens which she said is necessary for planning by Government.” I have a lot of concern about what you will do to encourage us that you should take this job seriously. We are all murmuring about one leader or the other we all make up the leaders. We have just one and that leader will not be everywhere at the same time. So, we have you around so, take this job seriously. You now know how to do this job without sending false information. Seek for help so that you give accurate data. We are suffering in this country because we don’t have accurate data. And when you don’t have adequate data there’s no way you will take care of the people. I wish you well and I pray that God to guide you and give you wisdom to do this job satisfactorily “.

While the State Director National Population Commission Rivers State, Lady Nwineh Barika Glory in her remarks said “For those of us who started with us for the training for 10-days and for those who want to learn, you have learnt. Today, we administered the Oath of Secrecy on the functionaries as we are now at Harbour road. We went to Saint John’s campus of Ignatius Ajuru University Aba Road Port Harcourt, where we started from there and now we are here at Wesley Methodist Girls Secondary School Harbour Road. For Rivers state Our expected participants are 1,999 functionaries who are supposed to be trained both at Saint John’s Campus and at Methodist Harbour Road. We have 1,772 that we trained. After now what we are doing is State level training of Facilitators. After that they will go to Local Government Areas to train Enumerators and Supervisors. Enumerators are those who will go to the field to enumerate persons, they are the ones who are going to do the actual   counting while Supervisors will be in charge of them. They are the ambassadors of the National Population Commission because they have to go and deliver as they have been trained and they will go and replicate what they have been taught and be able to train those at the LGA level. Right now, they are the ambassadors of the National Population Commission, so they have to behave well,”.

The 2023 national population Digital Census is scheduled to take place on 29th of March to 2nd of April, 2023. There has been several activities lined up in preparation of the digital Census of which delineation of Areas in the 774 Local Government Areas including Federal Capital  Territory-FCT
