FLOOD RAVAGE MUMA GEE’S NATIVE HOME IN AHOADA EAST, RIVERS STATE NIGERIA

——DISPLACED CITIZENS SUFFER MALARIA, TYPHOID, HIV/AIDS

The Director General of Rivers All stars For Sim Fubara, High Chief, Dr. Muma Gee a native of Ekpeye kingdom in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers state has cried out on the Flood incident that is currently ravaging her community. She issued out a Press statement in which she said “You are probably aware of the unfortunate flood disaster that has been ravaging several communities across the country including my home state, Rivers State. In fact, in my community, homes are submerged in water, properties worth millions of Dollars and regrettably too many parents are helpless as they lost small children to the disastrous flood. As I speak with you right now, I have been informed that the entire communities surrounding Ahoada east local Government Area of Rivers state have sacked by flood with families displaced as they all scramble for safety.”

On the other hand, there are many communities including Ihuaba in Ahoada East LGA that have not been captured by the Rivers state Flood Committee but the community in her ingenuity created one ad hoc Flood Committee.  Chairman of Flood Committee in Upata Kingdom Prince Ike Egeh, while responding to the Outreach visit by Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Eco, identified that the camp is housing seventeen communities and about four thousand flood victims who are in dire need of medical care occasioned with outbreak of diseases now ravaging the Internally Displaced Persons’ Camp in Upata kingdom.

“We thank you Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Eco for the intervention. People in this camp need urgent medical intervention. Last time, through our Royal Majesty Dr. Felix Otuarikpo, the Rivers state Police Medical team came to the camp on medical Outreach, all the tests carried out revealed that ninety percent of men, pregnant women and children here are positive of Malaria and Typhoid. We even have HIV patients here.

“People are dying of cold because they sleep on bare floors. The flood committee promised to come with Foams, uptil now we haven’t seen them. We heard the governor donated One Billion Naira for relief materials to the flood victims. We are yet to see anything out of it. People that are not even from these areas were inaugurated as members of the Flood Committee. How will they know what’s going on in these places. We are calling on the Governor to call on the committee to be proactive and do the needful, people are dying in this camp” he said.

For Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Eco, led by Mrs. Nancy Iheduru admitted that her team responded to some of the urgent needs of the Flood victims in Upata Kingdom in Ahoada east Local Government Area of Rivers state while planning to visit other LGAs in the state with more relief materials for the displaced families.
