JUSTICE IBRAHIM TANKO MUHAMMAD RESIGNS AS CJN

With pending poor state of health, the Chief Justice of Nigeria CJN on Monday 2th of June, 2022 announced his resignation from office. The man who was born on 31st December, 1953 into a Fulani ethnic nationality Family was called Nigerian Bar in 1981 as he started his legal career from 1982.  He became the Chief Justice Of Nigeria on 11th of July, 2019. His career as a juror began as a Magistrate while in 1089 was appointed Chief Magistrate of the Court of Federal capital Territory FCT Abuja till 1991 when he was appointed Judge of Bauchi State Sharia Court of Appeal.

In 1993 he was elevated to bench of Nigerian judiciary as Judge of Court of Appeal where he remained for 13-years until he was appointed to bench of Supreme Court of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2006 having been sworn in on 7th of January 2007. Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad resigned due to ill-health.

In his place is Justice Olukaode Ariwoola in accordance to the rules in seniority which may be subject to Mr. President’s prerogative.  The new Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ariwoola was born on 22nd of August 1958 and sworn in today.
