THE STORY OF HEROIC SUCCESS OF CHIBUIKE ROTIMI AMAECHI AND NYESOM EZEBUNWO WIKE
The 2022 Presidential Primaries elections that took place in Nigeria must have come and gone with the sterling performance of two Rivers state Ikwerre ethnic nationality born sons of former Governor and Minister of Transportation, Rt. Honourable Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and the incumbent Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike truly took Nigeria by storm as they represented All Progressives Congress APC and Peoples Democratic Party-PDP. On May 28 to 29th, 2022 PDP lined up 14 Presidential aspirants who crisscrossed the length and breadth of the country to canvas for delegates votes and support. Here Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike emerged second best with 237 votes against Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s 371 Votes who won the ticket as the Presidential Candidate of PDP for the February 25th, 2023 Presidential election.
On the 6th and 7th of June, All Progressives Congress APC Special National Convention witnessed the rise of the former Minister of Transportation Rt. Honourable Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi who came second best with over 316 Votes of total Votes of 2,115 votes cast. This is coming on the heels that a situation would have arisen where two Ikwerre sons would have become Presidential candidates of two major national political parties in Nigeria.
Since the advent of modern Politics in Nigeria there has been no time such records were achieved. In 1993, Chief Pere Ajuwa of National Republican Convention-NRC he emerged as second best to Alhaji Bashir Torfa who was NRC Presidential Candidate at the Port Harcourt Convention.
In 1998 leading to the 1999 Presidential election the likes of former Nigerian NSO Director General and former Chairman of Oil Mineral Producing Development Area Commission -OMPADEC, Chief Albert Horsfall and late High Chief Alabo Tonye Graham Douglas and late Cyrus Nunieh were Presidential aspirants in that era. But the wonderful performance of Sir, Dr. Peter Odili of Peoples Democratic Party -PDP took the nation by storm as he narrowly stepped down at the convention ground behind the scene for late Umaru Musa Yar’ Adua to emerge for PDP in the 2007 Presidential election.
Considering the successful outing of these two Ikwerre born politicians Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike it has shown that the political dynasty of Sir, Dr. Peter Odili has actual yielded fruit as both are products of Dr. Peter Odili while he was holding sway as Governor of Rivers state from 1999 to 2007 both were active players in shaping the structure of Peter Odili’s political family known as THE RESTORATION FAMILY. Still reliving the activities of the 1993 Social Democratic Party SDP where late High Chief Olu Benson Lulu-Briggs also showed interest as a Presidential aspirant really made rivers state to be noticed apart from being one of the Crude Oil bearing states in the Federation.
The sad thing about this duo is their avowed sense of enmity which has descended to their followers in Rivers state. Currently Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and the Governorship candidate of APC Tonye Cole is facing prosecution at Rivers state High Court as directed by the Rivers state Governor Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike with N96 Billion proceeds from the sales of the assets belonging to Rivers state.
