ENDBADGOVERNANCE PEACEFUL PROTESTS IN NIGERIA POSTPONED
The much awaited Peaceful protests against bad governance in Nigeria organizers have come out to postpone the protests across major cities in Nigeria to October 1st, 2024. In a published Letter by TAKE IT BACK MOVEMENT www.takeitbackglobal.com signed by Damilare Adenola who is the Director of Mobilization issued Notice of Postponement ofPlanned protest. It cited prevailing security concerns as the organizers can no longer guarantee the security of lives of protesters. As it stated “In the light of this, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the ENDBADGOVERNANCE protest to October.” It further stated that “The safety of our citizens is paramount, and we cannot compromise on that . We will continue to monitor the situation and work towards peaceful and secure protest on the new date.”.
There have been several calls by organizations and State Governments across the nation requesting citizens not to participate in EndBadGovernance protest. For Rivers state, Governor Sir Siminialayi Fubara called Rivers state citizens not to destroy properties and lives of fellow citizens after he held consultative meetings with several bodies including Civil societies, Students, and members of the organized labour as they all accepted Government’s plea but urged citizens if they should protest they should do it peacefully as its their constitutional right to do so but not to engage into violence. The fear of Rivers state government may not be unconnected with the rancour in Peoples democratic party, PDP as former Governor Wike and his successor His Excellency Sir Siminialayi Fubara may be hijacked by hoodlums.
