SENATOR MAGNUS ABE REMEMBERS DEAD JOURNALISTS IN RIVERS STATE.

Senator Magnus Ngei Abe who represented Rivers South East senatorial district in the 8th National assembly on Thursday 30th of June, 2022 paid a condolence visit to the Nigerian Union of Journalists Rivers State Council at Moscow Road Press Centre, Port Harcourt. He commiserated with the journalists who lost four of their members Late Joseph Ezuma Bureau Chief (Port Harcourt) of Aljazeera Newspapers, Late Obed Mpiegbulem Photojournalist The Sun Newspapers Lagos, Late Sam Walson Publisher of Rivers Today Newspaper and late Mr. Cally.

The State Chairman of NUJ Rivers State Council, Mr. Stanley Job Stanley in his opening remark established the good relationship Senator Magnus Abe had maintained since he was appointed Commissioner of Information during former Governor Peter Odili’s administration and his raise in holding public office as former Secretary To-Rivers State Government The All Progressives Congress -APC chieftain, while addressing the audience reiterated his penchant to Journalists whose invaluable contributions in nation building remain unquantifiable. He narrated how the changing phases in Journalism practice will impact the value of information dissemination in the future as he admonished journalists to always embrace the changes with alternative careers that will give them economic advantages. The former senator provided financial succour to the deceased families.

However, he reiterated the need for various demographic segment in the society to go and get their Permanent Voters’ Cards as his pet project SMA is not a political party but a pressure  group that is working to sensitize the members of the public to understand the need to participate in the present political dispensation. He opined that politics is about the people and that recently he met with Keke Drivers Association in Rivers state and from his interaction with the organization he realizes the need to get them to understand that  they have to get registered with INEC’s Permanent Voters’ Card acquisition

In her response on behalf the bereaved families, Mrs. Sam walson Publisher of Rivers Today Newspaper extolled the Senator for his magnanimous attributes and his show of concern to the fallen journalists and their families while she prayed God to always grant Senator Magnus Abe his heart desires as he aspires for higher office in the 2023 general election.

The Chairman of Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigerian Union of Journalists Mr. Amaechi Okonkwo earlier in his speech acknowledged how close the former senator has been to journalists practicing in Rivers state while he briefed him on the circumstances that led to the untimely death of two of the journalists late Mr. Obed Mpiegbulam a Photojournalist with The Sun Newspapers Lagos yet to be buried and late Mr. Joe Ezuma who was buried recently in his home town Izombe in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo state.
